The Sleek and Powerful 4th Gen Macbook Pro: A Story of How We Met

Sharing my thoughts on my Macbook Pro with the world. The Specs Are: two GB 667 DDR2 RAM, 2.5 Ghz Intel Processor, 8600 GT 512 MB VRAM, 5,400 rpm 250 gb hard disk, fourth gen.

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across Apple's new product, the Macbook Pro. Yes, It's been around for forever, and I've heard about it, but I've never really, actually seen it. And what I saw was gorgeous. Basically, it's a powerful notebook with a pretty decent battery life. I had just gotten rid of my old laptop, a Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz, 512 MB Ram, PCG-GRV 550 for its notorius fifteen minute battery life. Apparently, the designers decided to shove an inefficient desktop cpu into it! Anyway, I decided to look around online, do a bit of research. After an hour or two of looking on google, newegg, and tigerdirect, I decide on two options; building a barebones laptop or buying the macbook pro. Well, considering I'm a student, the price immediateley dropped to around $2,200. Additionally, I could sell the free ipod touch that would come with it and the price would be around $2,000. A same spec'd barebone that I could easily build would cost me aroun $1,600. Then the other factors came into play. I would have to either lug around a laptop with a terrible battery life, or I would have a think and reliable laptop with a decent battery life. To make a long story short, I went with the design and got the macbook pro. After about a week and a half of waiting, I got it! Right out of the box, a gorgeous sight greeted me. Instantly, I plugged in the charger and turned it on... The greeting movie.... the registration...and the desktop. This is my first mac, and here is what I can say about all of the hype; Macs are configured to be a bit smoother, and Windows pc's are great too. I didn't notice a substantial difference on using a mac (yes, some of the programs are cool) but overall, they are both computers. Although, I was a little dissapointed; I didn't acheive enlightment as soon as I bought it as Apple commercials tend to say. Oh Well :)

After using it for a couple of weeks:

Pros

  • Sleek Design
  • Battery Life around three hours
  • Fast!
  • Plenty of storage

Cons

  • Left corner of display is bent up, complained about it at Apple store, they refused to do anything about it
  • Battery life advertised to be 5 hours, instead 3
  • GETS HOT!

overall: I love it, just those cons
