Two Easy Ways to Make Your PC Start-up Faster

Two easy ways to make your PC start-up and run faster. Making changes to the start-up menu and the recycle bin will speed up your PC.

Is your PC start-up really slow? Does it take forever for everything to load? Any programs you have downloaded after the purchase of your PC will also decrease the speed of start-up. Having multiple programs starting at the same time is not only slow, but may also be harmful to your PC. You should not start-up any added on programs like: instant messengers, weather news, or file sharing programs, as this will contribute to the slowness of your PC. There are two easy solutions that may help in the start-up of your PC. These solutions will not guarantee that your PC will start-up and run faster, but they will certainly help.

Solution #1

When you download a program (whether it be online, or from a disc) most of the time there will be a selection that you can make to have the program start-up when the PC does. Not all the time, but most of the time this is not a good idea. Obviously the more programs you have trying to start-up at one time, the longer your start-up time will be. The first solution is quite simple and self explanatory.

Go to the start button at the lower left corner of your screen. Click on start, go through the menu, and select run. In the run box, type in msconfig, and hit enter. You will then be at the system configuration window. There will be a toolbar at the top of the window with the buttons: general, boot, services, start-up, and tools. You will want to click on the start-up button.

Once on the start-up window, go down and uncheck the programs that you don't want to start-up with your PC. Be very careful. If you don't know what something is, then don't uncheck the box. Unless you specifically know what you are doing, it's not a good idea to uncheck a program that you are unfamiliar with. After you are done unchecking the programs you don't want to start-up, click on the OK button. Since this has to do with the start-up of your PC, you will obviously have to re-start your machine in order to see any changes.

Solution #2

Another easy way to increase your start-up and overall speed of your PC is to consistently keep the recycle bin empty. Your recycle bin is where your deleted files go to when they are deleted by you. When you delete files they go directly to the recycle bin. Only they are not actually deleted until you empty the recycle bin. Even after you empty it, they still exist until another file overwrites that file. But, by emptying the recycle bin you are speeding up the overall speed of your machine.

Emptying your recycle bin is really simple. You should have an icon on your desktop that says “Recycle Bin”. Simply, double click on that icon to get started. At the top of the recycle bin window, there is a toolbar. One of the choices in that toolbar is to “empty the recycle bin”. Click on that choice, and a new window will come up asking you if you want to delete these items. Click yes. Your recycle bin has been emptied.

These two solutions are just a few of the ways to increase the start-up and overall speed of your PC. These are the easiest ways. There are other ways to do this, but they can also be more complex. In this case it's better to contact a technician, unless you are really familiar on how to do it. In most cases, the two solutions listed above should speed your machine up dramatically.
