Usually when user discover that his computer (desktop or laptop) is not working any more due to disk error there is a panic moment. But in general there is always a slight chance that you didn't loose all your files. In my experience I have more than 90% success in recovering damaged disk. It also depends if it is just some bad sectors on disk, or it is some more serious physical damage.
