Hey. Here's a few tips for those who are planning on getting new computers:
- Don't go for package deals. Ie. Back to school package; get a new monitor and PC for $700. These are not worth the money. Most package deals include half-ass made computers that go faulty 3 or 4 years down the line, possibly sooner.
- Make sure to read the specifications of a PC before going ahead and purchasing one. Ie. Make sure nothing is integrated into the motherboard other than the sound card. In particular make sure the Graphics card is not integrated. Integrated means the component is built into the motherboard and is therefor consuming power from the motherboard to run that component. You'll also want to go for a good 128Mb graphics card with a good 1Gb RAM if you're a gamer and don't want lag.
- Expect to spend a good $1k on the PC alone. Believe me when I say this, if you want to get a good computer that will last for as long as you mind the whole virus/spyware/hacker/etc. situation, you'll need to spend around this much. I know it's ridiculous.
- You may want to wait for a bit for the prices on flat screen monitors to go down. They've already started dropping in price, so it won't be long before you're spending $100 on a 19".
