New name for more expensive 100-Dollar laptop

The Children’s Machine 1 or CM1, as the device is shortly named, will be produced in China by a company named Quanta.

De co-workers at the One Laptop Per Child-project announced that the official name of the cheap laptop will be 'Children's Machine 1'. The CM1, as the device is shortly named, will be produced in China by a company named Quanta.

The laptop will be equipped with a 400MHz Geode-processor from AMD; earlier it was the intention to put a 366MHz cpu in the computer. The CM1 consists of an SDRAM of more than 128MB, WiFi and 512MB of flash memory for saving of data. Other new features, that weren’t installed at earlier prototypes, are a SD-input, a microphone and a digital camera. The 8 inch large screen has a resolution of 1200x900 pixels, but in spite of all the CM1 is very economical, cheap and easy to use in variable light circumstances, according to project leader Nicholas Negroponte.

However, these hardware upgrades had consequences for the price of the laptop. Price will be around 140 Dollar.
