Have you ever tried to check out the defragmentation tool? Maybe your answer is yes, my computer got slow and I thought that that was a bad thing and I stopped it.
In fact, it is so hard to explain what defragmenting is. When you install a number of softwares or when you simply copy or create some files somewhere in you HD in a certain order like this: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Those files or softwares take an amount of space. Now, when you delete some files or uninstall some softwares it will be something like: 1, blank, 3, blank, 5. And maybe you might install other softwares later and have something like this: 1, blank, 3, blank, 5, 6, 7.
Well, having a lot blanks -empty spaces beween softwares' files- is the bad thing. Why? it makes your computer really slow.
As we know, when you want to launch a software, you double click it's shortcut wherever it was- that one way of doing that-. Then, the microprocessor loads the software's files and required files -DLLs usually- into RAM. What makes your PC crawling is that when you copy, create files and then delete them or when you install softwares and uninstall them later you make those empty spaces which the microprocessor looks in while trying to execute a software and spends some seconds doing that. That's what makes loading files into RAM harder and your computer slower.
When you defragment your HD, the computer organizes the files and removes those empty spaces making loading a software faster so that your computer works normally and becomes fast as it should be.
Don't forget to defragment you HD partition. You only need to defragment the partition where your frequently used software are installed in a weekly basis to prevent system crashes and wasting some precious seconds.
How to defragment -step by step guide-:
- Double-click "My computer" icon in the start menu or in the desktop.
- Right-click the desired HD partition, and then click "Properties".
- A window will pop up, click the "Tools" tab.
- Now you should see a button labeled "Defragment now", click it.
- Another window will pop up, click "Analyse".
- Your computer will get slow. Stand by til it finish.
- It will tell you that you either should defragment the HD partition you have chosen or not to defragment it. Do what you machine said.
N.B:
- Don't install any software, copy or create any file while the process of defragmenting.
- Try to switch the monitor off and leave your computer for some minutes while defragmenting.
- Do defragment whenever you have time for it and after you installed, uninstalled, created or copied some files or softwares.
Time goes and never comes back, don't waste it. I hope that was helping. Thanks for reading.
