Five Ways to Get Your Computer the Way You Want It: Tips and Tweaks

Five ways of modifying your computer so that it will run smoother and look cooler.

I know that aot of people were disappointed with vistas release, people claimed that it was merely XP with a funky skin. So I decided it was about time I could see what Vista could do. I trawled through the depths of Windows Vista and found some pretty fun little things.

  1. Voice recognition

Voice recognition used to be a separate program that costs £30 (60$) upwards as they are rather complex pieces of programming. Voice recognition can shave hours off work or be used for a little fun. Find it under ease of access on the start menu and start talking to your computer!
  2. Disable automatic startup programs

This is the first thing I do whenever I get a new computer. It can save so much time when starting up your computer by closing a few unnecessary programs. Just go into the start menu and type in "msconfig" this will bring up a box. Click the "startup" tab and deselect any undesirable programs. The more you remove the faster your PC gets! (this isn't just a vista tip, it works on all windows operating systems)
  3. Windows sidebar

How many of you have had that sidebar sat at the side of the screen without adding anything new to it? Here are some really good widgets that I recommend.
  4. Save battery

If you're a laptop user like myself then you'll know how frustrating it is to run out of battery in the middle of something important. This little gadget will help you save those precious minutes of battery by turning off aero whenever your system is low on battery.
  5. Have a cleanup

Vista is packed full of maintenance software such as disk defraggers, virus scanners and firewalls. The majority of the can be found on the start menu > accessories > system tools

Hehe, not bad ideas. There are many more tips and tricks out there but they are much more technical like turning off the anti alysing of your computer. (This helps to make your computer run much smoother). Also you might want to check how much RAM your computer has, if you are running bigger programs you may want to look into buying another stick of RAM to put in your computer, (If your running low on RAM or have to little, A new stick to put you over the edge will make a Huge difference.) If you want some more tips and tricks Just for your unique situation, add TheStargazer90 on aim and I would be happy to help.

As for this article, I agree with it and hope to chat with you sometime Thompson.

hi there, thanks for your comment, i plan on expanding this article and producing a series of articles regarding computer tips, RAM is definitely a big part of the system and its relatively inexpensive and easy to upgrade especially compared to things such as processors etc.
