Snapping has made life a whole lot easier when drawing. Automatic snaps allow you to draw an object next to another without having to align it.
In this example I want to draw a box with a cone in its center:

Now I select the cone tool and attempt to draw a cone in the center of the box, as you can see, it the attempt wasn't successful:

To create a cone on top of the box in it's center, I first delete the cone I just drew and use a 2D line and connect the opposite corners of the box. As you can see, there is a red box around the corner of the box, this indicates a snap:

Now I have a box with 2 lines crossing:

Now I select the cone tool and place the cursor over where the 2 lines intersect and an "X" will show up, this also indicates a snap:

Now I click and draw a cone, but when I'm resizing the cone, I get an unwanted snap:

I don't want to snap this because the results of this snap is unwanted, so I right click anywhere (while the cone tool is still in action) and go to snap overrides and click on none:

Now we won't have any snaps until next time we finish using this tool, and now I can draw my cone in peace:

You can delete the two 2D lines but it won't make much difference. Here it is in render mode, I know its not a work of art but it's a start:

Note: There are more snaps, just look in the object snap toolbar:

The different types of snaps are self-explanatory.
