Why buy a $649 program when you can just refer to these great alternatives?
Adobe Photoshop is very well known for its image editing capabilities. The only issue is its price. I don't really know for sure but I'm pretty sure paying $649 for an image editing software is not really worth it. Today, you are going to see four free alternatives that pretty much get the job you need done.
Paint.NET
Paint.NET is a choice that a lot of people decide to use. Officially it is available for Windows XP and up although there have been people hacking it to be available for Linux. This Linux version is called Paint-mono and it can be found here. You can find Paint.NET here.
GIMP
GIMP is also a very popular choice. This program, unlike Paint.NET is cross-platform and is available to all operating systems. There is a slight variation to the program called GIMPshop which has all the features of the original copy of the GIMP but it replicates the design of Photoshop. Gimpshop can be found here- while the original GIMP is found here.
Krita
I have not personally tried this program but have seen that it quite sufficient in doing the job. Krita, like GIMP, is also cross-platform. Krita comes with the office suite KOffice. KOffice isn't completely for Windows. You can get KOffice here. Krita doesn't come alone.
Pixen
I personally have not tried Pixen also but my friend has really found this an extraordinary program. Unlike all the other programs, this program is specifically for Mac OS X. It uses an interface similar to Photoshop. You can find the program here.
