I suppose as the technology and sophistication has increased the term hacker has evolved.

I hope my focus is clear to most readers however.
Basically, this article is not about hackers, but rather crackers, which i believe is the correct term for the type of person described here. Correct me if im wrong.

Apologize for what?

There is a difference between having computer skills and attacking peoples computers for no reason. People do not fear or doubt or harbor uncertainty about those kind of people. They have anger toward them. There is no purpose to ruining someone else's property.

And you don't have to be all that computer literate to accomplish that either. That is the saddest part.

If you have computer savvy and you can do something good with it then you have nothing to be offended by.

Hopefully there is only a narrow group of people who are so desperate for attention that they would blindside someone by ruining their property. Some it is a narrow minded point. Obviously I am not addressing people with actual computer talent.

Thanks for the comments.
Nick I hear my my man. I don't agree with the spyware types either. I think that kind of corporate invasion is very lame also. And it is vandalism if it ruins the operation of your system. Maybe I wasn't clear on my focus. I was referring to the bullying type hackers. Hacking of the juvenile kind. Something that doesn't require any real skill but only malice.

You have a good viewpoint, but not all hackers are just vandals. In fact, many or even most of them are hired or paid. They implant spyware, set up spam worms and steal your information for the benefit of some company or person who sunk so low to want to do that. If you really take care to notice before you destroy them, almost all viruses have to do with spamming other people, spying on you, and are obviously linked to making some kind of money.

Also, you don\'t seem to have a complete view of what a \"hacker\" is. You are only talking about hackers that invade your computer and do ther malicious things, but the term \"hacker\" or \"hack\" can apply to many things such as taking apart and modifying digital devices and computer code. If you type in hack on Google, most of what you\'ll find are howtos on modifying iPods and laptops.

great, great, great article! I love your writing style. I recently wrote an article on hackers and demonstrated their crimes and punishments. You would not believe the number of comments I got from people idolizing these guys. One guy even said that hackers and criminals are not synonymous. The way I see it, if you're a hacker, you're entering someone else's premises where you're not welcome and you're taking valuable information or destroying something that isn't yours. So I really don't see the difference between hacking and say a breaking and entering offense. And this is why the justice system doesn't take hacking offenses lightly. Thanks for the article.
