Computer History: Why are the Computer Keys is Not Arranged Alphabetically?

You will notice that the first six letters in a typical keyboard's top first row are “Q, W, E, R, T, and Y”. Even the most advanced and sophisticated word processors and computers support this type of keyboard layout. Now, have you ever wondered why the letters are not arranged alphabetically? The answer might surprise you.

QWERTY keyboard

The “QWERTY” keyboard layout first appeared in the 1860s. The design was patented by Christian Sholes, creator of the first modern typewriter, and a newspaper editor who lived in Milwaukee, United States. The first layout had the characters arranged alphabetically, set on the end of a metal bar that struck the paper when its key was pressed. However, fast typists had a problem with this layout because the letters that lay close together on the keyboard became entangled with one another. By using a study of letter pair frequency, Sholes was able to determine which letters would tend to clash into each other when typed in succession. He made sure that the type bars were hung at safe distances, so that the common letter pairs such as “TH” would not cause jamming when the letters were typed in succession. The “QWERTY” keyboard layout was the result of this study. And it's been more than 130 years since its design and invention.

The “QWERTY” has had some competition from other keyboard layouts. One is the Dvorak keyboard, created by Dr. August Dvorak, and educational psychologist at the University of Washington in the US. However, the Dvorak has failed to prove itself superior to “QWERTY”. Perhaps it doesn't really matter what keyboard we use. In the end, typing fast is but a skill that takes a lot of practice to master.

10 Important IT Rules for SME's User Support

Those are only real life experiences. Use them as a guideline at your work.

Create a general document that every user must sign before they first login on to the computer. Describe duties and responsibilities and also write in all rules that may apply at their work. Create local internet page with useful information that every new user should read. User should be aware of his/here responsibility when he/she got a computer and a network access.

Do not allow users to install any kind of software on a computer without an authorization. All application should be checked and verified by IT stuff.

Internet is just one of the sources that users can use for their work. Do not ban private use; there should always be permission to use internet sources also for a private use. But make it clear that internet use can be filtered and banned if necessary.

Use proxy. Proxy gave you a perfect view on internet use. Users should be aware that proxy gave administrators a good internet usage statistic.

Teach users about internet use, internet communication. Teach them about internet frauds, ways of how others can gain personal information. Sharing that kind of knowledge with your users is usually well accepted. Users will become more aware of the dark side of internet and in the same time we have some better chances that our system is not going to be compromised.

Regularly control public and temporary folders. Do not allow users to store their private stuff on company data storage. Why spend many on expensive fast storage to collect data that is not relevant to business process. But do allow users some private data on local machines. But make it clear that you do not create backup of their personal data.

Encourage users to read manuals, use F1 key or just search the internet for their problem.

Every new policy you apply and restrict any kind of usage of computer's HW or SW in a company should be explained clearly to all users.

Try to choose one or two brand names for your HW (notebooks, desktop, server, printer) that way you are going to have better support, lower price and no compatibility problem. Just allow users to choose their HW from list you provide or accept.

Do not be a part of your user mailing list for jokes, funny links etc. If you want to have a strict policy and users who are going to accept them, than you have to be strict to yourself, otherwise all effort is worth nothing.

Just remember, everything your users learn is important as much for him/here as for your SME and you. Less technical support, less error and less time spent on solving problems give use more time to work on improvement and innovations in IT.

An Overview of SAP R3

The very first version of the SAP enterprise software consisted of a financial Accounting type of program known as R/1. The combination of the three letters consisting of S-A-P was ultimately replaced with the R/2 at the close of 1970. SAP R/2 was software produced for a mainframe computer system and usually operated on systems such as the IBM S-390 Enterprise mainframe computer. This software package proved to be extremely versatile and functioned flawlessly during the 80's and the early 90's.

These software modules were especially popular with the larger European companies which real time applications with multiple capabilities. It was not long before the successes of the initial software prompt the SAP Ag Company to expand its products and thus it brought out the SAP R/3 which was fully multiple platforms capable. This new software operated on various platforms such as Microsoft Windows and the ever popular UNIX systems. From 1992 onward SAP dominated the business application market on up to 2002.

The real beauty associated with the SAP R/3 software is that it is created to function as distinct modules that effectively provided support for many of the organizational function often found in today's modern businesses. These functions ranged from Finances and Control, Human Resources, Materials Management Branch, Sales & Distribution, as well as the Production Planning department.

Each module was created to handles only specific business orientated tasks however all the modules were ultimately linked to each other. As an example, billing department could issue an invoice which would be directed to the accounting division and would appear in those sections accounts receivable.

Combined with the excellent multi-powered S-390 Mainframe computer this system represented the ultimate software for business management. It could effectively be cross platformed without any sort of data lose at all. In other words you could easily use the Mainframe as your central processing equipment and safely import various data from your individual servers regardless of the platform that they were using.

The various SAP specialized modules are programmed for coordination within certain business segments such as retail or utility purposes.

Unfortunately in order to utilize all of these impressive features one would have to pay dearly for the associated license fees. The goal of SAP when it comes to their software development is that they want to provide a much more efficient product for the corporation than would be possible for them to actual attempt to create on their own.

The structure of the SAP R/3 has been programmed by using the proprietary language commonly known as Advanced Business Applications Programming or simply ABAP. This is a forth generation programming language which provides a powerful subset of programs capable of providing complete functions for management and analyzes. Although all the modules were fabricated to perform together each and every one can function solo.

Much could be written on this software package however due to the various Custom configurations that could be established it would take many pages to provide a mere scratching of the surface. To better understand this package you should sit down with a representative and tell them what your company really needs in the way of enterprise solutions.

How to Display the Lyrics as the Songs Play in Windows Media Player

One of the least utilized (yet most simple) things you can do to increase enjoyment of your Windows Media Player (WMP) is to enable it to display the lyrics of the song being played in addition of the visualizations or video. And you have the option of displaying them either scrolling along with the song, or as static lyrics which show several lines at once that you manually advance. Either way, you can do it in about a minute.

First Things First

The first step is to pledge allegiance to the Republican Party. This type of technology in the hands of a Democrat could significantly alter mankind as we now know it. You must also acknowledge that if your relationships suffer due to continued use of this program as karaoke - defined as uttering sounds that may or may not sound like the words of the songs - I am not liable. And last, but not least, you must promise that occasionally you will leave a nickel or a dime in the coin return chute of any vending machine so that it will create a small sense of joy to some random person who will find it at some point in the future! Who doesn't smile when they find extra change in the return? And the world could use more smiles.

Let's Get To Work

The following steps will show you how to manually add lyrics to your songs. Before we head off to the internet, open your Windows Media Player (WMP). Right click next to the "Now Playing" tab at the top of the player and enable the "show classic menu" option. You can uncheck it later if you prefer not seeing it but we are going to use the menus often enough to keep it visible for now. These instructions I am giving you assumes that you have the latest version of WMP installed. (Version 11) If you are not sure, click the help button and click on "About Windows Media Player". This will tell you what version you have installed. If it is an earlier version, I suggest that you upgrade to WMP 11. It is so much better than the earlier versions.
Now click the "Play" option at the top and go down to the "Lyrics, Captions, and Subtitles" option and click "On if Available".

Find a Web site that catalogues song lyrics. Most will let you copy their lyrics without jumping through any hoops. Highlight the text of the lyrics and then either right click and select "copy", or use Control+C. Make sure that no other parts of the page get highlighted accidentally. You only want the text. Here are four Web sites where you should be able to find your songs and they are user friendly.

http://www.elyrics.net/

http://www.lyricsmode.com/

http://www.musicsonglyrics.com/

http://www.oldielyrics.com/

Here is a cool little known secret: If you take the main word of a ".com" website such as "oldielyrics" in the fourth website I listed above, and type it into your address search bar and then hit Cntrl+Enter, your computer will add the http://www. before your word and .com after your word.}

Open your WMP and click on the Library tab. Find the song you just copied the lyrics for and right click on it. (Fig. 1) Highlight the "Advanced Tag Editor" and hit enter. This will open the "Advanced Tag Editor". (Fig. 2)

Select the "lyrics" tab, choose a language, select the "add" tab, click in the blank text box and paste your lyrics by either right click and select "paste" or Control+V. (Fig. 3) If you stop at this point, you will have "static" text that does not scroll as the song plays. If you want the scrolling text, click on the "Synchronized Lyrics" button just below the text box. You will see that the lyrics are now loaded with each line having a time value next to it. This value represents exactly when each line of lyrics will be visible on the WMP.

Below this, you will see the same information graphically. Sometimes the WMP errs on the exact time to display each line. If this is the case click the value in the time column, select "edit" and then type the new time value. (Fig. 4) You can check how accurate it is by hitting play and watching when the red lyric bar crosses over the time bar. You can also edit the lyrics to add or change words in each line. If you need to add a whole line, hit add, type in the new line of lyrics and then assign it a time value. When you hit enter, it will insert itself in the correct place.

Life Threatening Toxins From a Dead Computer

A dead PC is a box of deadly chemicals just waiting to break out. Extinct PC's should be labelled as 'toxic' waste and here's the reason why.

A computer contains not one, but eight toxic chemicals, all of which can do serious harm to the environment and to human beings.

Photo: Wikipedia

Arsenic

This is often used to make printed circuit boards because it is a very good conductor. Levels are very low but in a recycling centre, or a dump they may accumulate and become a very serious health hazard.

Mercury

This element is used in flat screen displays and can escape when a monitor is dismantled. It can easily get into water supplies where it transforms into methyl mercury which builds up in the body of fish and enters the food chain.

Beryllium

This is a very lightweight metal which is used in computer motherboards. Beryllium dust is toxic to humans and can cause lung problems. This metal and its compounds have been classed as carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Cadmium

This is used inside your computer to make contacts and switches and rechargeable batteries. It has been banned in the European Union since 2006 but there are many computers around that are much older than that. Cadmium oxides are toxic to plants, fish, humans and animals and inhaling them can cause cancer.

Lead

Photo: Wikipedia

Lead was originally used to solder on printed circuit boards and that too was banned in EU in July 2006. It is toxic to humans and it is thought that low level exposure to this chemical may impact on the development of the brain in children.

Flame Retardants

Some of the materials used as flame retardants inside computers are toxic if released into the atmosphere. If cases are crushed or broken these materials get into the air and can hamper brain and skeletal development in animals (including humans.)

Phthalates

These are used in the making of plastics and the most widely used one is DEHP which is classified in EU as toxic to reproductive health. There are no controls on the use of these chemicals in plastic production, although regulations do exist to limit their use in the production of children's chewable toys.

Selenium

Selenium is often used in printed circuit boards and prolonged, high level exposure to this chemical is know to cause neurological problems in humans.

So, when your PC dies don't dismantle it yourself for your own safety and think carefully before you dump it. You may be leaving a box of lethal chemicals out there somewhere for some unsuspecting person to release.

Wireless Networking Security Considerations

Without doubt; the implementation, maintenance, updating, and testing of a network's security suite in conjunction with ongoing network state-of-preparedness assessment, form the fabric upon which counteracting all forms of unauthorized network access and uses before, during and after the event are based.

Introduction

It would be nice to live in utopia, that ideal world where nobody was a villain and misdemeanors never occurred. Unfortunately for the majority of us residing back here on planet Earth, security breaches, compromises and issues are all too real and unpleasant facts of life. Regardless of our station in life somebody is always trying to get a free lunch at our expense or trying to take advantage of us in some other way.

This being said we need to identify the objectives, acceptable standards, policies and regulatory compliance requirements that our wireless network security should deliver as intended.

Wireless Networking Security Objectives Defined

It is widely recognized that the underlying themes of all network security, and not just the wireless components, should be such that they consistently ensure adherence to the principles expressed by the CIA of Security ethos. Simply put this means the planning, implementation and maintenance of organization/network-wide Confidentiality, Integrity and Authentication (CIA).

The implications of this are that only duly authenticated authorized users have full access to all of their allocated network resources, assets, capabilities, bandwidth and Quality of Service (QoS) in line with the appropriate user rights, permissions and privileges whilst maintaining full and comprehensive organization-wide network confidentiality and integrity. The trick is in doing so seamlessly and transparently to the user.

Strategies

The implementation of security strategies and solutions consisting of multiple layers of protection by incorporating and melding a blend of physical security, multiple layers of authentication, network monitoring, traffic flow control, firewalls, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, surveillance, logging and log analysis, specialized software, hardware and complementary technologies are widely regarded to be the fundamental pillars upon which the preservation of rock solid security for networks is built.

Make no mistake about it, this holds true for wired and wireless networks alike. By employing a security-in-depth approach many exploits can be negated. An example of where multiple layers of authentication can return handsome dividends is in wireless network access.

First line of defense is network access and connectivity controls. Users should be required to provide valid current authentication credentials in order to begin to access the wireless network. The user's wireless adapters should also be required to authenticate themselves.

Machine authentication can be implemented by simply creating a Wireless Access Point (WAP) or wireless router MAC Address filter table. Devices lacking a qualified listed MAC Address will be automatically denied network access. This level access control actually precedes any user based authentication mechanisms since the MAC Address is contained in the Layer 2 header of every packet placed onto the network.

The next line in our defenses could involve additional authentication at various points throughout the network including transit beyond the local segment. For wireless networking components this can be most easily achieved by configuring dedicated wireless only network segments or through Virtual Local Area Network segmentation (VLANs) for wireless devices.

These specialized and segregated wireless networking segments can be placed into Demilitarized Zones (DMZs) for ease of administration. It is also advisable to make sure that they are on LAN segments physically independent of the rest of the network. Secondary user passwords or passphrases can be implemented at the application level as well.

Failure to incorporate a multi-layered approach makes the likelihood of successful intrusion far more likely. If all an attacker need do is to “crack” one password or passphrase then having gained access to a wireless network component without secondary authentication mechanisms in place you can safely assume that they will have also gained full access over your entire network. This means all assets and resources including those of the wired segments.

Wired and Wireless Issues

I will now cover the major issues and areas of concern pertaining to wireless network security. Please note that this list is not intended to be absolute nor complete. New exploits and threats arise every day. Hence I have elected to present and highlight here those areas representing the greatest concern and/or those areas most likely to present future new threats and exploits.

Many of the generic issues discussed below apply equally to wireless and wired networks alike. This is especially so when the device in question is a consumer class broadband modem/router. Both the wired and wireless versions will exhibit the same basic preconfigured functionalities and default manufacturer configurations. For example manufacturers tend to use the same default administrator name, administrator password and network names as well as enabling DHCP by default.

So let's get to it and as always security starts with the physical and wireless networking is no different.

Physical Security

There are many physical security related issues regarding wireless networking security including the physical security of the device itself (accidental loss theft etc), device naming and labeling conventions, physical accessibility (so critical for troubleshooting) coverage, Quality of Service (QoS), bandwidth, signal distortion, degradation and strength, device location, type of antennae and many more. If you would like to read more then check out Wireless Networking Physical Security.

Transmission Media

Because wireless networks use a public domain transmission medium, which is freely accessible to anyone with the right tools and desire, it is imperative that additional care and attention be paid to security aspects throughout the network's entire life cycle. So it is that the appropriate time for consideration of these initiatives to commence is at the very beginning of the network's life cycle during the technical requirements analysis and evaluation, planning and design stages. The process will be ongoing from there.

Documentation

Wireless device manufacturers usually provide the device's supporting documentation either on a disc bundled with the device or available for download from the manufacturer's website. In general, this documentation usually describes first steps/getting started, minimum requirements, preparation, installation, additional security procedures and finally troubleshooting and support.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of users will either ignore or skim over this information or anything else that is not pictorially depicted in the quick start guide. Let's face it these are the realities of our plug "n" play world. The device is working and I can use it; end of deal.

Plug "n" Play

The rise in popularity of wireless networks and technologies can in no small part be attributed to plug "n" play capabilities. On the one hand this is a boon for ease of connectivity, user friendliness and all-round ease of use. Yet it is these very aspects that make plug "n" play devices across the board so susceptible to subversion and compromise.

The problem with the default plug "n" play “silent install” approach to the installation and configuration of all devices (including wireless networking devices) is that in so far as network/device security is concerned it is no approach at all.

Manufacturer Defaults

Manufacturers preload their hardware with device specific software (firmware) and a basic configuration intended to get users up and running in the shortest possible time with minimal required user input.

Factory set default configurations, parameters, options and settings of most if not all devices are in the public domain. This is due to the fact that detailed and specific device defaults lists and documentation are generally freely available on the device manufacturer's website. They can also be found on a number of other third party websites.

The big difference between the documentation, resources and tutorials etc that are published on a manufacturer's website and those published on third party websites is that on the whole the third party sites tend not to confine their listings to only those devices manufactured by a single manufacturer. They also tend to reveal more of and about the inherent flaws and potential exploits of a device that a manufacturer would prefer to “overlook”. You might say that they are a one-stop-shop.

War Driving and Wireless Network Hacking

While most of us have heard of hacking the practice of “war driving” is not so well known. So for the benefit of one and all war driving is the practice of cruising around with a wireless enabled laptop complete with a plethora of wireless networking detection and cracking tools. Many war drivers even make use of GPS to physically locate with pin-point accuracy the precise locations of any wireless networks detected.

The major distinction between the two is that war driving is all about discovering the existence of wireless networks. Hacking wireless networks on the other hand is about cracking/breaking into those wireless networks discovered through war driving or any other means such packet sniffing.

In short, the hacking of wireless networks is all about gaining access to a network whilst not being a legitimate bone fide network user with authentic access privileges and rights. This does not infer in any way that a would-be intruder is implicitly malevolent.

For example, legitimate, authorized and authentic security staff conducting site surveys, penetration testing or network preparedness assessments usually do not have “evil” intent. Still others may be attempting to access your wireless network for the thrill of it simply because it's there.

Note that the tools used for war driving and standard wireless hacking purposes are generally the same. In addition, these tools are freely available for download via the Internet usually in the form of self extracting automatic installation packages or user installable software.

What many may not realize is the degree of user friendly sophistication and capabilities that these tools have attained over the years of their existence and development. So it is that in today's wireless networking climate we must assume that attackers are by default armed with these tools. With this in mind we can construct our defenses in a manner best suited to counteracting a multiplicity of threats originating from all angles.

Conclusion

In combination a device's factory defaults and plug "n" play silent installation and setup provide a very user friendly, fast and convenient method to get a device up and running. Yet it is these very same default factory/plug "n" play device parameters, default configuration settings and behaviors that make wireless networks and wireless devices installed in this way without any further user/administrator interaction particularly inherently susceptible to compromise.

Therefore, immediately after the initial setup and installation has completed successfully the first security tasks that you should religiously attend to are the modification and/or customization of the basic manufacturer factory default settings, administrator names, passwords and configurations.

A Guide to Building a Custom PC 1

First of all, you would need to think about what type of PC you're going to need. Usually they are in the three categories of Word processing and media playback (such as watching movies and listening to music).

If you intend on building a PC based on simple tasks such as word processing, the price of the components all together should cost around from $800 to $1 000.

If the computer is intended for the gamin or video editing, you may need to consider from $1 500 and possibly all the way up to $3 000 and more.

REMEMBER: You (supposedly) want to build a PC that is pretty up to date and can support programs from the upcoming 2 to 4 years. So consider spending more than $1 500 if you are not going to change PCs every 2 or 3 years.

So now that you've decided what kind of PC you want to build, the next step is choosing what type of system components you would need in order to build your new PC.

If your system is aimed towards basic tasks such as word processing and media playback, your system's minimums should be:

CPU - Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo E6000 Series and higher

RAM - 2GB RAM (Generic will do) DDR2 is recommended for its price and performance

Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce 6000 Series and onwards

Motherboard - Gigabyte EP35-DS3L and upwards

Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Why Vista? Sooner or later you are going to want or need to upgrade to Vista but XP currently is not a bad choice

Keyboard and Mouse - Any quality brands will do according to your budget (eg. Logitech, Microsoft)

Monitor - Any size from 19” and onwards is fine, though do consider a widescreen monitor if you constantly use Word so you can view pages side-by-side, but of course, this would depend on how much you are willing to spend

Speakers - For listening to music inside a room, you can get a set of 2.1ch speaker system for less than $50

Extras - Webcam, Microphone

Chassis - Any quality chassis with good ventilation and that suits your taste (as in design) is good

Power Supplies - I personally DON'T recommend generic power supplies that came with the chassis and suggest that you purchase your own (e.g. brands such as Cooler Master, Antec, Corsair etc are recommended) with 450watts or higher

Hard Disk - A 250GB Drive should do you fine unless you're intending to rip libraries of movies and music albums, your new PC's HDD space is dependant entirely up to you

Optical Drive - A DVD burner should be enough for most users - with LiteScribe if you wish

If your system is for gaming or video editing, start considering more on the performance than the price. Below are my minimum suggestions:

CPU - Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo E8000 or better (E8500 recommended) or if you have the money, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or better

RAM - 4GB branded RAM for gaming and 8GB branded RAM for video editing (Corsair Dominator would be excellent and DDR3 would be awesome)

Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and better (NVIDIA GeForce 8000 or 9000 Series are ideal for extreme gamers)

Though a good video card is not entirely necessary if you intend on just video editing, I still advise that you still purchase one that is at least capable of handling Vista Aero smoothly without causing too much system drawback, plus you might decide to do 3D rendering in the future

If you are an extreme gamer, think about a SLi configuration or Crossfire

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 or better (the motherboard does not necessarily have to be from Gigabyte, but it's just one of my favourites

Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate or Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Why Vista? Sooner or later you are going to want or need to upgrade to Vista but XP currently is not a bad choice

Keyboard and Mouse - Shop around for gaming keyboards and mice, there are plenty from Logitech

Monitor - 22” and larger with at most 5ms - consider a widescreen

Speakers - I suggest that you purchase higher end set with at least 5.1ch but if you're not really bothered about the sound 2.1ch should be fine

Extras - Webcam, Microphone, Gamepad, Joystick etc

Chassis - You might need to consider a gaming chassis - major brands such as ThermalTake, Cooler Master and Antec provide chassis purposely designed for gaming systems to provide good ventilation systems

Power Supply - A power supply from major brands such as Antec, ThermalTake and Cooler Master with at least 1000watts if made for gaming and at least 750watts for video editing

NOTE: These are just suggested, if your graphics card requires more or less than I said, please follow what its manual says!

Hard Disk - 1TB of HDD space should be enough for a gaming PC though if you're also doing video editing or have media libraries, I would advise that you put some money into purchasing quality hard drives - Seagate and Western Digital suggested - and the PC should total up with at least 2TBs especially if it is like a family's central PC

Optical Drive - DVD burners are probably the way to go, though if you are into Blu-ray, I would get a DVD burner alongside with the Blu-ray drive personally, particularly if I'm burning lots of DVDs (Blu-ray drives tend to burn REALLY slowly with DVDs)

How to Change the Color of Your Command Prompt

Want to amaze your friends by changing to the color of your command promt, well now you can and it will only take a few minutes. Here we go,

Open your Command Prompt. Hold the "windows key" and press "R". Then type in "CMD" and hit "enter".

Right Click on the CMD icon, in the top left corner or anywhere along that top bar.

Click "Properties" and Go to the "Colors" tab of the window that opens.

Select the "Screen Background" Bubble and Pick a color. If the one that you want is not a preset you can make it with the Selected Color Values box. Do the same for the "Screen Text" bubble. (I like to choose black for the background and lime green for the text to make it look like the matrix.)

Click "ok". When the pop-up box comes up. Select the bottom option and then "Ok".

You're done!

Now go show your friends how cool it looks.

A Way to Keep Your PC Running Faster and Cleaner

A Way to keep your PC running Faster and Cleaner, as always you are going to need some tools to tweak it.

Ok so let’s start, First of all you will need the following tools:-

CCleaner

Registry Mechanic

Spybot - Search & Destroy

Lavasoft Ad-ware Personal

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

A Good Anti-Virus that does not use many resources AVG Internet Security would do great.

Firewall if you don’t have AVG internet Security

TuneXP

jv16 PowerTools 2006

BugDoctor

Memory Optimizer Pro 2002

I think that all these tools should suffice. So first of all, the following steps should be done when you see your PC slowing down, it means that it’s time! So I would suggest you to keep a bookmark of this article.

Now to start off with CCleaner is a very famous software and it’s used to clear History, MRU lists, Temporary internet files and some more Junk files from your PC. If you browse the internet a lot I would suggest you to run this tool weekly.

Now as to Registry Mechanic. This is too a very famous tool, and this is a vital tool to remove a lot of unneeded registry entries, that your PC will load (therefore taking up more time to read al registry) and they are useless.

Well anyone knows what Spybot - Search & Destroy is, I would recommend you to disable the TeaTimer (it’s the real time protection of S&D) There are better ones. This should be ran at least once in a month, of course depending on how much you browse the internet, therefore your PC of being vulnerable to threats.

Lavasoft Ad-ware Personal, is a vital tool too, run updates frequently and make a “Smart System Scan” frequently and make a “Full system Scan” once in a month or so. Well you might ask this should reach the same purpose of S&D, right? Well to my amusement, no, this will eventually find more threats and more malware, so it’s advisable.

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, yet another anti-spyware you might ask? What is this? Well don’t worry, you will eventually find that this will detect even more spywares. I have tried them, and they all shown different spywares, so if you want to be safer, you need all these tools. Besides that, AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, has a real-time protection, which I myself found very good. Besides that it updates more than once a day.

Anti-Virus, of course this is a basic need of all PC’s connected to a network, more and more if the network is The Internet. I would recommend you AVG internet Security 7.5, it has firewall, spam mail filter (believe me, it’s good) anti-virus and much more protection for your PC, and of course taking minimal resources from your PC. Of course you can even have the AVG Free edition but if you use that then find some 3rd party firewall, that is good enough. There are many good ones, even free ones out there, but many of them blocked my whole internet connection, strange huh?

Ok, so TuneXP, I just love and adore this tool. It has 2 functions that I use very often, these are, “Defrag Boot Files” this option will defragment your Boot files, enabling a faster startup time, and then the “Ultra-Fast Booting” this will re-arrange the files of the startup, making your startup even faster. I have tried this, and I must say... If you are like me, have tons of tools installed and most of them load at startup, then after running this magnificent tool you will see a big difference, believe me... you will love it.

Now, perhaps the ‘not so common’ jv16 PowerTools 2006. This is like a collection of softwares into one. It has many programs like, Software Manager, that will enable you to uninstall programs that do not appear into the Add and Remove Software in the Control Panel, and will let you remove softwares that you were supposed to have uninstalled, and of unknown software that you never agreed to install. That is the best tool of them all, but it has more to offer... like File Cleaner, Registry Compactor, Startup Manager, Disk Wiper, Start Menu Fixer and much more. But beware, it’s powerful enough that if you use it without knowing what you are doing, it can ‘destroy’ your PC.

BugDoctor, well it’s not so famous, but it’s quite good to make a little more deep cleaning to your PC, it scans for some errors like wrong shortcuts and some other stuff, well not such a needed tool, but it’s small and would do no hard to have.

Last but not Least, MemoryOptimizer, well there are ‘better’ tools, but that unfortunately take a big amount of resources, to free up the RAM and gain more RAM. This is a small tool and does its job quite well.

Well for now this is my list of software, of course do not install softwares that you already have similar to that run in real-time mode, for example do not install AVG anti-virus if you already have another anti-virus, just a quick and last tip to keep your PC running smoothly!
